Hellter Interviews Danny Hassel (Nightmare on Elm Street 4 & 5)!!
Hello Grue-Lings,
Welcome or guest today from Nightmare on Elm Street 4 & 5 Danny Hassel. Danny is best known for his role as Dan, who is the boyfriend of Alice is Nightmare on Elm Street 4 & 5. He got his start in the entertainment world by landing a role on 1 episode for a tv series called Houston Knights. He also did episodes for Murder She Wrote, Simon & Simon, Columbo, and The Outsiders. He was in a TV film called The China Lake Murders and of course Nightmare on Elm Street 4 & 5. Back in the 80’s ever girl and gay male wanted this guy. Let’s get started with the interview with Danny Hassel.

HELLTER: How was the casting process, how did you get cast
as the hunk Dan?
DANNY: Hey..well ,I was cast pretty much like any big call ( for non big actors)I had a good agent at that time..they saw a lot of actors and luckily I got the part.. I was younger and better looking then (Laughs).

HELLTER: How was it like working with two ICONS in horror,
Robert Englund and Wes Craven? Did you have fun fight scenes with Freddy?
DANNY: As for working with Robert that was a blast,he is always giving some advice our telling a great story..I actually had quite a few scenes with big makeup pieces so I was in the makeup chair next to Robert for weeks, so we got to hang out a lot..as for Wes I was not on the movie until # 4 so no interaction with Wes really.

HELLTER: That sucks you didn’t interact with Wes. At least you got to work with Robert. In Nightmare 4, you play the high school Jock Dan who falls in love with Alice. How was your interaction and your thoughts on Lisa Wilcox?
DANNY: I play the high school jock that was friends with Rick and so I basically just played the guy I was in high school,friends with everybody. Lisa was easy to get along with,pretty,and a good actress ..so we became friends and have been for years now.

HELLTER: Yeah, we interviewed Lisa and met her. Super sweet person. What was your favorite kill and favorite scene in Nightmare 4 and 5?
DANNY: I think the cockroach scene was super cool and when Freddy stabs Rick in the pizza and eats him (laughs). I also love the scene where Lisa and I are going in circles.
When I was told they were doing #5 I knew I was gonna die real quick (laughs) but they still had money in the budget so my death scene was Epic (laughs).

HELLTER: I have to say, your death scene was epic in Nightmare 5. The motorcycle death, wow. I read somewhere. I forgot what magazine it was a while back. That the horror fans of the gay community think you are the hottest guy in the whole Nightmare series. How do you feel about being a hot Jock in the series who many consider the hottest guy from the series?
DANNY: As for my LGBT fans ,I love it (laughs)!! I also heard I was in the top 3 of Horror Hunks (laughs) I was a lot young guys and girls 1st crush (laughs) so I have been told.

HELLTER: You most def were the crush for alot of people in the Nightmare series. Would you have liked to see your character Dan get more involved with Freddy like Alice was or have a relationship with one of the other characters besides Alice?
DANNY: I was fine with the script and how I died ..back then #5 kind tanked at the box office so I was good (laughs).

HELLTER: I kinda liked Nightmare 5. But yeah, I heard it didn’t do so well in the box office. The only other film it looks like you did besides both Nightmare films is The China Lake Murders. Who was your character in the film and how was your experience filming it?
DANNY: China Lake Murders I play a small role as a very handsome police officer (laughs). I did some Episodic television, Murder She Wrote. Simon and Simon, Columbo, and a series based on the movie the Outsiders..that also tanked otherwise I would be so rich dammit!! (laughs).

HELLTER: You had a good run in the entertainment world and your horror fans are very loyal. Anything else you want to discuss or promote?
DANNY: Right now my latest creation is my 6 month old daughter…I also play bass in a band called Victrola..www.victrolatheband.
