GRUEMONKEY: Hello Jesse and thank you for being my guest today on Gruemonkey. What made you want to become an actor and what was your first acting gig?

JESSE: Hey Rock,
THANK YOU for having me on the show. I appreciate it and I’m so excited to be here! To answer your first question, about what made me want to become an actor, there are many things in my life that influenced me as a young kid, before I was an actor or even had the idea of working in film and television. To start it off, I come from a blended family of 8. We are all spread out in different places. Every family event, my parents would bring us together for summer, Christmas, spring and all of the main family holidays. As we were growing up, we all noticed that we had a strong passion for movies with comedy and action like the Mission Impossible, The Bourne Identity, Pirates Of The Caribbean, All of the Oceans Movies, Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs, Nacho Libre, Fantastic Mr.Fox. We started making little short skits and bits and videos for our YouTube so we all had an artistic mindset and expressed it through our family videos everytime we would get together. In the end, I’ve had many influences in my life with acting. I feel I am someone who is very in touch with their emotions and I can put myself in other people’s shoes, and that’s something I use with learning new scripts and getting into a character physically and emotionally. This is useful, even in my everyday life, as an actor.

For your second question, what was my first gig, I remember the feeling, when I went into that audition room. I felt so comfortable and felt like they really liked me. Immediately, from that day, I fell in love with that feeling. The feeling when a casting director asks a scene/task from you and are completely satisfied with the outcome. My first gig was for a commercial for Doctor Dreadful Toys. Tt was a toy that you could make slimy gooey delicious gummies in a creative spooky way! I remember the cast that I was working with was great. We immediately clicked and the rest of the crew, director and clients were so friendly and made me feel so comfortable to be there!

GRUEMONKEY: That’s so awesome!! I read you model too. How did you get involved with modeling and what was your favorite modeling shoot that you did?

JESSE: How I got into my modeling career also explains the story on how I started my whole career in this industry with modeling and acting. My mom was watching TV and the moment in my mind popped up, I ran into the room and turned toff he TV and said “MOM I WANNA BECOME AN ACTOR!”. She said, “JESSE TURN IT BACK ON!” From that point, both my parents were on the lookout for an opportunity for me to be an actor. We were driving one day and on the radio there was an ad for a company called “PRO SCOUT” . Proscout travelled across North America, to find the next big stars. We went to the meet up and greet in which they filtered through the people that potential. They felt I had “IT”, the potential, and invited me to Philadelphia to audition for and meet with agents from around the world. They also held seminars for actors, models and parents to teach us about the industry. I went and performed a monologue and walked the runway. I had over 30 agents interested in me> I met them all and chose the ones that were closest to my hometown, It was a modelling agency, SPOT 6. In Toronto. My model agent, Cynthia Cully, introduced me to my acting agent Pat Jarosz from BOOKITTALENT. My favourite modeling shoot was for Marshalls because it was the first one and the first time that I was recognized from family and friends.

GRUEMONKEY: I love how stuff like that comes together.  You hear of an audition and show up, have tons of scouts interested in you. You go with the one you want and they introduce you to a acting agency. Great story. Are you a fan of horror films and if so, what are some of your favorites and why?

JESSE: I am a big fan of horror films and believe that some of the best films/scripts and storylines in the world have come from the horror thriller genre.
Do I enjoy them the exact same way as a different genre ? No, I am a bit of a scaredy cat when it comes to scary films. I put myself in the situations that the characters are going through and become terrified of the idea, if I was in their place. Some of my favourite horror films that I was truly frightened and put fear in me for the rest of the night would be: Get Out, Us, Hereditary, The Conjuring, The Cabin in the woods, The Thing, The shining, Insidious, Shaun of the Dead, The silence of the Lambs, Parasite, It, Follows. These are just some that come to the top of my head. Some other films that I enjoy, that are not necessarily part of the horror genre, but make the audience very uncomfortable and more disturbed and disgusted then scared, would be: The Lobster, Seven, Midsommar, Oldboy (Korean Version), Antichrist, Salo/120 days in Sodom.

.

.

.

GRUEMONKEY: Wow, you really are a true horror fan. Salo/120 Days in Sodom, not a lot of people know that film and the ones that do know it, neve want to watch it again because how brutal and uncomfortable it is. And I never heard of The Lobster. I have to check it out, thanks dude. What is Black Rifle Coffee Company? I see you promote it on your Instagram page.

JESSE: Black Rifle Coffee Company is a veteran owned coffee company that has amazing tasting coffee. I have it on my instagram because I went down to North Carolina to visit family and I got some coffee and a hat and shirt gifted to me by my brother in law! I also have a lot of respect for people in the military and love going out to land and safely practising shooting guns.

GRUEMONKEY: Nice man. If I get to North  Carolina, I have to check them out. It’s always good to support our brave people in the Military. You are in amazing shape. Great abs too. What do you do to stay in shape and have abs that look like that?

JESSE: First off, I wanna say thank you so much and I’m very flattered and appreciative! I do have my ups and downs because I am a huge fan of foods that are bad for my gut. I’ve always wanted to stay in shape and I thank my mom and dad for teaching me the importance in taking care of yourself with staying in shape and hygiene. Ever since I was a young child, I’ve worked out with my dad in our little home gym. We do P90X , which I believe is one of the best home workouts to go through. All the muscle groups that they choose for each workout fit so well together. The one video is AB Ripper X, that’s the video that has helped me to this day to have the body I have now.

.

GRUEMONKEY: Thank you! I have to try that out. My gut is getting bigger. With this Isolation we are all going threw from the Corona Virus, all you do now is eat. I’ll look that up and get on it. How did you get involved with Netflix and Creeped Out?

JESSE: I got involved with Creeped Out because I received the audition info from my agent Pat Jarosz. I received a call back then went in for a second audition where the director was present. We immediately clicked. He showed me that he appreciated what I was doing with the role and how I was perceiving the character. I was so thankful for that! I was booked on the job and went to the studio. We filmed a couple days. It was one of the best times of my life. The cast and crew were amazing and one of my favourite directors I’ve met . I have lots of respect.

.

GRUEMONKEY: Glad you had an amazing experience with Creeped Out. Tell us about your character and what the episode of Creeped Out that you were in was about?

JESSE: The episode that I’m in, on Netflix, is called Kindlesticks, My character was one of my favourite characters I’ve played. His name was Chas. Automatically, when I saw his name, I knew he was gonna be a tool. His character is very selfish and not very aware of his surroundings. He only does things to his own benefit. The episode is about this girl named Esme, who baby sits children all around her neighborhood. She gains trust with these families, who have things she enjoys, like big houses with junk food and movies. After the parents leave, she will scare the kids to bed early with Chas, her fake friend with a monster costume. They can hang out and take advantage from all the fun stuff in the house, without having to actually do their job. But as that goes on, they decide to hit the wrong house with a scary child , that terrorizes them back. They get them a taste of their own medicine.

.

.

.

GRUEMONKEY: Yes, I love that episode. My favorite of the series. What was your favorite scene in that episode of Creeped Out?

JESSE: My favourite scene in the episode is when we first meet the kid who gives us a taste of our own medicine. He doesn’t fall for it and starts laughing and looks at us as very foolish for thinking he would fall for our tricks. We argue back and forth and he starts to worry my character, a little bit. He scares with his little stories. I love the comedy in that whole scene.

.

.

.

.

GRUEMONKEY: (Laughs). Great scene. Did anything really scare you or freak you out from filming Creeped Out?

JESSE: Obviously I wasn’t truly scared of anything cause we were on set with over 100 people behind the camera, but I did put the image in my mind if this was actually happening. When I was acting , I would be so scared of this kid and the events that were going down like something flicking my ear without me knowing or a plate flying through the room and smashing like paranormal activity!

.

.

.

GRUEMONKEY: (Laughs) Nice! Any funny or fun behind the scenes stories you can share with us that happened while filming the Creeped Out episode?

JESSE: One story I have from the Creeped Out shoot is the scene where the plate with snacks and food flies at Chas and Esme. If you look closely, you can see the glass plate lands right on my head! I thought it was hilarious. At the moment on set, I didn’t care because I was in the zone. I do remember it kinda hurt but didn’t hurt that bad. When I watched the full episode, I was very pleased that they used the shot and it put a smile on my face!

GRUEMONKEY: Watch out for those flying plates (Laughs). Anything else you would like to promote or discuss?

JESSE: Again I wanna thank you for inviting me to talk and share my stories and hope we can meet in person someday, I love what you do, research and interviewing actors and models trying to break into this industry. You brought back great and fond memories of my career and how it all started! Things I want to shout out and promote are; Pat Jarosz my agent whos been with me from the start and is the owner or Bookittalen. I could never have done this without her. Also, my instagram is (jesse_lowell) and my dm’s are open for other actors and actresses or just people who have any questions about the industry. Lastly, if you want check out some of my familys home videos and skits we made, its on my brother’s channel called (Popou) with the big Lebowski profile picture!
I shot a tv pilot in Nassau, called The Magic of The ChicCharney and I am looking forward to travelling back to the Bahamas to shoot the series.
Again, thank you
Sincerely
Jesse Lowell.
