He is also an accomplished fight choreographer, having worked some films in addition to acting. Below is Philip Ng’s Top 8 Favorite Horror films:
EVIL DEAD 2 (1987):
A more polished version of the original and one of the first horror films I vividly remember my father taking me to when I was a kid. The ending leads (spoiler alert) directly to my next pick.
ARMY OF DARKNESS (1992):
Was old enough to watch this one with my friends. Ash was the lovable-douche that we all secretly (or not so secretly) admired and aspired to be. Random trivia – I met Bruce Campbell at a book signing was I was a kid, he was awesome.
DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978):
Zombies in a mall, this movie started it all. Excellent movie, while I did enjoy the 2004 remake, this one is hard to beat.
A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (1984):
Made it hard to sleep after watching this one as a kid. Freddy’s iconic glove is still pretty epic.
THE CABIN IN THE WOODS (2012):
Clever and fun. The fanboy in me loved all the Easter eggs and references. The ending sequence is crazy.
THE CRAZIES (2010):
Never saw the original, but this 2010 remake is a clever twist on the zombie premise. This one genuinely gave me a few jumps, which is rare after I began working in the film industry myself and knowing how these things are made.
ZOMBIELAND (2009):
Learned a set of rules. Best cameo ever.
ENCOUNTERS OF THE SPOOKY KIND (1980):
One of the few movies I remember watching as a very young child in a Hong Kong theatre. Written, produced, directed by, and starring the legendary Sammo Hung, this was one of the first in a line of kung fu horror comedies that dominated Hong Kong cinema for period of time in the 80s.
