Synopsis: Six college best friends throw their own private graduation party that goes terribly wrong when an uninvited guest arrives. Five years later, the girls gather once again and endure a night of far more horror and bloodshed.
Andrew E’s Review:
In the movie, a small group of girlfriends gets together for a night of partying, very reminiscent of Slumber Party Massacre and one by one they decide the party would be improved if they all downed a shit load of drugs (fair decision). When the sober friend (the only male) takes one of the girls into the bedroom, the rest of the group sober up and begin to panic and start breaking down the door, they’re horrified to find the masked man raping their friend. A scuffle ensues, and the man dies…

Back to the review; This is a rather brutal start to a film but it is really engaging. The films drug taking scenes are beautifully shot, with glorious blurs and color swirls. It has a high-end production feel from the moment the film starts. As an audience member, you realize that this isn’t your started low budget horror, but a horror with some money and talent behind it.
The movie fasts forwards five years later, the group comes together (again) for a long weekend at a remote isolated cabin in the woods. Because they are clever and why wouldn’t you in a horror film? One of the group, Joey (Jamie Bernadette), isn’t dealing with the trauma of the night they lived 5 years earlier well at all. Similar to the portrayal of Laurie Strode in Halloween 2018 Joey sees the ghost of the dead man in her mind at every turn in her life, it is all-consuming. It is later revealed that this PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) Joey is experiencing is not confined to just her and is shared by all the other girls too. It isn’t long before the weekend retreat turns rather sinister when a killer, wearing the same mask as the rapist man from their previous trauma, begins picking them off one by one in true slasher movie style.
The movie is great at building suspense and tension, it has a great score that accompanies the movie and really brings you through terror and unraveling perfectly. The 6th Friend is that traditional slasher movie: trauma in the past + isolation + killed one by one = the killer is revealed at the very end. What this film does do is give the slasher film a nice amount of freshness by adding supernatural aspects to enrich the story content while simultaneously making this movie more appealing to horror audiences giving out into the world something new. The acting in the film is faultless, and all character are delivered with pure conviction and grace. There was nothing of actual notoriety that I can pull out as the movies major flaw. It was solid from start to finish and a job well done by the creative team behind it. Visual effects are strong (and psychedelic at times). The body count (as it is a horror) is high, and you route for this group of women.
